WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

Follow a fairly very wet late fall in 2021 and a very cold snap in January of 2022. This cold event was troublesome, some varieties such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc being badly damaged Winter continues well into April with a cooler than normal temperatures. Summer months were favourable for grape growing with lots of sun and heat with just enough rain, maybe too heavy at times but just enough at the right times!! Conditions for harvest was very good fruit quality was impressive but yields were lower than normal.

The grapes used for this wine were harvested by hand from a small Pinot Noir Vineyard in Niagara on the Lake grown by Martin Vagner. Soon after the harvest the grapes were crushed, destemmed and immediately pressed so as not to extract too much colour from the skins. The juice was settled for a coupe of days before being racked of the sediment and moved to a tank for ferment. Fermentation started naturally using an indigenous yeast. With cool temperatures throughout the ferment, it took almost 3 weeks to be competed giving some really amazing texture and bright, fresh fruit flavours and aromas.

TASTING NOTES:

A light pink colour with fruit forward flavours of raspberry and cherry and a hint of spice. The wine has a rich texture that is well balanced with a citrussy pink grapefruit finish. The perfect wine for a summer afternoon picnic. Will also pair well with light pasta dishes with shrimp or mildly spiced curry. And of course, enjoy with good friends!

WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

2023 was an exceptional year in Ontario for grape growing. Winter was relatively warm with little snow and temperatures were above normal for most of February and March and had us all thinking about an early spring. Bud break was right on time!! However warm conditions were in order from the beginning of May and throughout the summer, there were some hot spells but also some vert wet spells as well leading to some concerns with disease pressures. September was warm and dry and harvest began early with grapes were picked in ideal conditions with good maturity and intense flavours.

The grapes for this wine were harvested in amazing condition from 24 years old vines planted close to Lake Ontario in Beamsville. Grapes were destemmed and crushed before being settled before transfer to stainless steel bins for fermentation. The juice was fermented at cool temperatures maintaining the bright fruit character and fresh acidity.

TASTING NOTES:

Light pink in colour with aromas of ripe strawberry, cherry and a slight spicy note. The wine is dry but there is richness on the palate that brings out the ripe red fruit flavours that are balanced by a citrus note on the finish.
