WINEMAKER’S NOTES:

Growing conditions in the spring were quite slow with cooler weather and lots of moisture delaying budbreak and slowing early spring growth. June was warmer, in fact we had some quite hot spells throughout the month giving great flowering conditions. by the end of the month the vines  had caught up following the slow start. The rest of the summer was mainly sunny and warm with just enough moisture for steady development of the vines. September was cooler, but mainly sunny giving a great beginning to the harvest season. October was warmer with more moisture and humidity but in general conditions remained favorable. It was a really good year for the production of Chardonnay, the cooler temperatures allowed for slow ripening, developing amazing flavours and keeping the acid balanced without high sugar.

Grapes were harvested in great condition, Crushed and destemmed before a gentle pressing. Juice was settled in tank before transfer to small (225 L) 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels for fermentation. Ferment was slow in the cool environment of the barrel cellar giving bright, clean and fresh flavours.  Malolactic ferment was completed after which the wine was allowed to rest on its lees, with no stirring for 10 months. The wine was then bottled after minimal filtration.

TASTING NOTES:

Aromas of peach, pear and ripe pineapple with notes of white flowers   that carry through on the palate. A creamy texture a beautiful balance on the palate, lots of forward fruit with notes of caramel and butterscotch. An elegant, pretty wine that finishes with yellow citrus notes. This wine will drink well now and will also cellar well for the next few years.
